Bray’s late push helps lead Tigers over Lions

A hot start and strong finish were the perfect mix for McKeesport as the Tigers picked up their first postseason victory since the 2016-17 season with a 51-37 win over Greensburg Salem in the opening round of the WPIAL 4A girls basketball playoffs.

The Tigers opened the first quarter on fire, outscoring Greensburg Salem 17-3 in the frame. Emma Elash put up the first three field goals of the contest to help McKeesport to an early six-point lead.

Two of Elash’s first-quarter baskets were thanks to the Tigers’ defense forcing turnovers and quickly transitioning defense to offense.

McKeesport’s defensive efforts combined with balance on offense led to an 11-0 run to close the first quarter.
