Blessing Board seeks donations for furniture

The Blessing Board of McKeesport is using the spirit of Valentine’s Day to encourage people to donate to the nonprofit, which gives free furniture to individuals and families who need help obtaining household necessities.

Executive Director Rich Garland said Thursday the spirit of spreading love shouldn’t be restricted to Valentine’s Day. He is encouraging Valley residents to contribute to a “heart-themed” donation program.

Garland said love and the capacity of the human heart are at the core of the mission of The Blessing Board, a Christian-based organization. He said some people are financially struggling so much that they do not get to bask in the joy of love on Valentine’s Day, or on any other day.

“We share the love of Jesus with every person who walks through the door,” Garland said. “The furniture we provide to families in need, like the heart, is a symbol. This Valentine’s Day, we invite you to share in this love.”
