Forward Township landslide shuts down road — again

Bunola River Road in Forward Township is once again closed after part of a hillside came crashing down on Wednesday.
The closure is not new for area residents who frequently use the roadway.
The road is currently shut down in both directions between River Hill and Elk Horn roads. The area is located in Allegheny County and across the river from Monongahela, Washington County.
Last year, the road was closed several times due to landslides and mudslides in February, April, May and June.
The trend is continuing this year, leaving Forward Township supervisors with their hands tied and few answers for residents.
During a meeting in January, supervisors discussed the difficulty they have had pushing PennDOT for answers — and a solution to the reoccurring problem.
Despite supervisors Thomas DeRosa, Dave Magiske and Ron Skrinjorich, along with police Chief Travis Stoffer and District Manager Alison Piccolino from Democratic state Sen. Jim Brewster’s McKeesport office, taking a PennDOT District 11 representative on a tour of state-maintained roads that are crumbling, answers are still vague.
