Boil water advisory still in effect for 4 communities

Several communities are still under a boil water advisory after a third break on Wednesday on the same waterline.
The original advisory was issued for North Charleroi, Charleroi, Speers and Monessen on Tuesday after a transmission line break in the Authority of the Borough of Charleroi’s water system in Monessen.
A portion of service into the line malfunctioned later the same day.
Although the problems were fixed twice Tuesday, a third break on Wednesday, in a different area of the same line, extended the advisory indefinitely.
Wednesday afternoon officials from the authority, PennDOT, the state Department of Environmental Protection, contractors and Monessen City engineers were on scene evaluating the problem.
Authority Director of Operations Chad Warfield said the problem was expected to be fixed last night.
However, as of presstime, DEP officials had yet to inform the authority when the advisory can be lifted.
Warfield said the third break occurred as water samples were being delivered for testing.
Water samples were collected on Wednesday and more were going to be taken today before the precautionary ban was lifted — which was expected to be sometime Friday.
