Russell Jeter was born on May 8, 1944, in Uniontown, son of Ellen and James Jeter and the baby brother of seven siblings. His parents moved to Chicago when he was about 7 years old. He attended an elementary school in Chicago and graduated from Dunbar in 1961. Russell was drafted into the military and faithfully served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. He then married Fannie French in April 1971, which produced one daughter, Stefanie. The two were married for 32 years and lived in a suburb of Chicago. He began his career at Western Electric and then continued at Milwaukee Railroad, where he retired. He was very active in his community by serving many years on the village board and was known for his outspokenness regarding what was best for his community. Russell left us on Feb. 8, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellen and James Jeter, as well as all of his siblings: Alberta, Cornelia, Albert, Cora, Annie and Nettie. He leaves behind three daughters, Doretha, Stefanie and Dominique; grandchildren, Russell and Jalen; and a host of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. at the BEVERLY C. DRAPER FUNERAL HOME.
