Valley Oldies: Sweetheart deals shared headlines for valentines

Here’s a timely reminder to procrastinators: You still have time to buy a Valentine’s Day card, flowers or candy for the love of your life or make reservations for dinner for two at your favorite restaurant.

The Valley Independent and its predecessor newspapers, The Charleroi Mail and The Monessen Daily Independent, as well as The Daily Republican of Monongahela, offered similar messages with an abundance of news and advertisements throughout their existence.

Armed with those thoughts, let’s take a random journey to Yesteryear via the familiar This Day in History (Feb. 11) routine.
