Belle Vernon Area officially punched its ticket to the WPIAL playoffs with a 72-64 victory over Elizabeth Forward in Section 3-4A play Tuesday.

In a game that featured eight lead changes, BVA (7-14, 4-6) took the lead with a little over two minutes to go in the second quarter and never looked back, clinching its third straight trip to the postseason.

“I thought the effort was there and we turned it up a bit in the third quarter when we started changing defenses,” BVA head coach Joe Salvino said. “It was like a playoff atmosphere so that was a plus.”

Four players finished in double figures for BVA. Larry Callaway scored 18 points, including 10 in the second half, while Cam Nusser and Hunter Ruokonen each chipped in with 13. Nusser picked up a double-double with 11 of BVA’s 21 assists.
