Ernest Leslie Opfer – Forward Township

Ernest Leslie Opfer, 85, of Forward Township, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019. Born in Elizabeth Township, on April 15, 1933, he was the son of the late Harry and Hazel Bricker Opfer. Ernest worked for Peoples Gas Company and retired after 35 years. He was a member of the Shriners and the Northern Masonic Organization. He served his country with the U.S. Army and was a member of the AMVETS. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty (Smart) Opfer; son, Louis (Michele) Opfer of Garrett County, Md.; daughter, Rhonda (John) Beadling of Fairhope; grandchildren, Brian (Jaime) Opfer of Garrett County, Md., Sheila (Bert George) Beadling of Olympia, Wash., and Paulette (John Lint) Beadling of Olympia, Wash.; great-grandchildren, Kara Opfer, Violet George and Josephine George. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Hazel Jean Sekerka and Evelyn Guffey. Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township, 724-929-7934, www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Ken Sommerfeldt officiating. Interment will follow in Round Hill Cemetery.
