At a hot chocolate stand that raised money for the McKeesport K-9 Unit held Sunday by 7-year-old Christy Park resident Peyton Estochin, Officer Nick Matthews gave an update on K-9 Farkle’s health.
“He’s doing good,” Matthews said of the 8-year-old Dutch shepherd, who was diagnosed with an oral melanoma in August.
After medical evaluations, veterinarians determined that a tumor on the hard palate of Farkle’s mouth could not be operated on and he would need to receive radiation treatments and vaccines.
On its Facebook page, the K-9 unit began asking for donations to help pay Farkle’s $9,000 in medical expenses.
Supporters of the unit began dropping checks off at the McKeesport Police Department and at Parkview Federal Credit Union on Eden Park Boulevard.
