Emergency crews responded to a landslide around 1 a.m. Tuesday on state Route 201 in Fayette City.
The slide, which occurred near Ricker’s Market, compromised a retention fence installed on the cliff face along the eastern side of the roadway.
PennDOT District 12 community relations officer Valerie Petersen said, while minor slides regularly occur in the area, this one put passing motorists at risk.
“The amount of debris that came down — some of it onto the roadway — compromised the safety of the fence, so the road is currently down to a one-lane restriction,” Petersen said. “We have crews on scene trying to clean it out and get it back to where it needs to be so the road can reopen to two lanes.”
