In a meeting last week, Mid Mon Valley Transit Authority board members voted to keep a bus stop in California borough at its new location, despite complaints from residents of a nearby senior citizen high rise.
In February of last year, the authority chose to eliminate the bus stop at Liberty Towers and move it to the corner of Fifth and Liberty streets. The bus no longer travels on Liberty Street, avoiding a steep hill.
In a press release issued Monday, the MMVTA board states the decision was made for safety reasons.
According to officials from the Redevelopment Authority of Washington County, including housing director Jim Hott, the residents of the high rise started a petition to get the bus stop moved back to the building’s entrance.
