BVA approves changes to cheerleading constitution

Belle Vernon Area School Board approved its revised cheerleading constitution Tuesday.

Parents and students packed the district’s administration meeting room to hear the outcome of the matter, which has previously caused tension between them and board members. Some alleged that board members sought to alter the constitution to benefit their own children.

Directors Lou Rood, Michelle Callaway-Rodriguez, Kathleen Forte, Joe Grata, John Nusser, Joel Whiteko, Daniel Sepesky and Gloria Yuschak unanimously approved the constitution. Director Aaron Bialon was absent.

Last month, the matter was removed from the agenda before being brought to a vote, with several directors claiming they didn’t have adequate time to review it before making a decision.
