Worst of winter storm misses the Mon Valley

Despite early reports calling for Winter Storm Harper to pummel the region, Mid-Mon Valley residents woke up to little snow on Sunday.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh reported an average of two inches fell in parts of Washington, Westmoreland, Fayette and Allegheny counties from early Sunday morning to afternoon.
While inconvenient, the snow served as a cover for a bigger problem — sheets of ice on roadways. Consistent, heavy rain fell throughout Saturday and overnight when temperatures dropped to below freezing, causing dangerous driving conditions.
One woman was transported to an area hospital following a one-vehicle crash around 1:30 a.m. Sunday in McKeesport.
