For more than 30 minutes, the Belle Vernon Area boys basketball team played a game of catch up against Monessen Saturday afternoon.
Trailing by as many as 17 points in the first half, the Leopards showed a never say quit attitude, which paid dividends when it mattered most.
Facing a 10-point deficit after three quarters, BVA’s effort went outmatched in the final eight minutes – outscoring Monessen, 23-6 – to claim a 66-59 comeback victory in nonsection play.
The Leopards (4-12) forced 11 turnovers in the fourth quarter while Hunter Ruokonen and Cam Nusser combined for 17 points in the frame.
