Samuel E. Thorpe, 80, of Monessen, passed away peacefully on Jan. 16, 2019, at U.P.M.C. Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. A retiree of U.S. Steel, Sam was born Jan. 10, 1939, in Monessen. Preceding him in death were his parents, Samuel and Irene Thorpe; a sister, Helen J. Davis; and niece, Pamela (James) Harvey. Surviving are a daughter, Glynitt (Greg) Scales-Patterson; grandchildren, Brittany R. Scales and Kyle Sanders of Monessen; nephew, Frank “Wyatt” Davis of Monessen; nieces, Latoya Craig and Ryan Irene Davis; and nephew, Frank Davis Jr.; close friend, Cherry West Scales and many other relatives and friends. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan, 22, 2019, 1 p.m. the time of the funeral service at BEVERLY C. DRAPER FUNERAL HOME in Monessen, with Pastor William C. Bass officiating.
