Salvino ready for first meeting with Monessen

When Belle Vernon Area hosts Monessen in a boys basketball game this afternoon, it won’t be just another non-section contest.

It will be the first time that BVA coach Joe Salvino will go against the school he guided to greatness for 34 years.

Salvino, who won 639 games and numerous section, WPIAL and PIAA championships at Monessen, is in his first year with the Leopards (3-9).

“There’s no doubt it will be different,” Salvino said of the 2:30 p.m. tipoff against the Greyhounds (7-5). “When you have lived your whole life in Monessen, went to school there, played there and then coached there, doing something else is definitely different, definitely strange.
