1 dead in Forward Township blaze

At least one person is dead and two firefighters are recovering from injuries following a fast-moving blaze that damaged two homes in the Gallatin-Sunnyside section of Forward Township early Tuesday evening.

While the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner could not release an identity or cause of death prior to presstime, county spokeswoman Amie Downs confirmed that one person died during the fire.

Gallatin-Sunnyside Volunteer Fire Company was called to the corner of Locust Avenue and Morgan Run Road shortly after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday

Once on scene, firefighters encountered the two-story engulfed in flames and quickly spreading to the home next door.
