As snow began to fall Saturday afternoon, things began to heat up on the basketball court as Monessen was tagged for 27 fouls, including a pair of technicals, in an 82-70 loss to Class 3A powerhouse North Catholic.
Despite the setback, first-year head coach Dan Bosnic was pleased with the way his team battled.
“We recognize North Catholic as a good basketball team and I thought our guys played extremely hard,” Bosnic said. “But they made some plays and that was the difference in the basketball game.”
Elijahwa Payne, who finished with 17 points and 16 rebounds, began the game with back-to-back buckets inside before North Catholic’s Jackson Paschall knocked down a jump shot.
