A motion to increase the pay of street department workers in Donora led to another argument among council members Thursday punctuated with heavy bangs of the gavel.
Councilman Dennis Gutierrez first brought up the topic of giving the borough’s two part-time street workers an increase to their hourly wage about a month ago. After last week’s workshop meeting, council went into executive session to discuss the matter.
At the beginning of last night’s voting meeting, there was nothing on the agenda that would have addressed the raise. But at the end of Gutierrez’ recreation department report, he made a motion to increase the workers’ wage by $2 an hour.
“Really Dennis? Really?” Councilwoman Cindy Brice responded. “Did Mr. (John) Bedner call you and tell you I was going to do that because I’m the chairman of the street department? Really? You trying to get some points from somebody?”
