Liberty residents to see slight sewage rate increase this year

Liberty borough residents will see a slight increase in sewage fees this year.
Council unanimously voted to pass an ordinance increasing the sewage charge from $10.10 per thousand gallons of water consumed per quarter to $11.50 per thousand gallons of water consumed per quarter.
The flat-rate charge for all unmetered users is now set at $151.20 per quarter. All users will also see a $15 per quarter surcharge.
In another sewage-related matter, council unanimously voted to pay $21,960.16 to State Pipe Services for sewer repair and upgrade services.
The money will come out of the borough’s sinking fund, which is funded by a $1.2 million Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) loan that was approved last year and is being used to make sewer deficiency repairs in the borough.
