Pauline S. Holet – formerly of Perryopolis and Uniontown
Pauline S. Holet departed this life to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 7, a date she and family originally celebrated, using the old Julian calendar, as “Russian Christmas” or “Little Christmas”. “Pinky”, as she’s been called ever since young siblings had difficulty pronouncing “Paulinka”, the Croatian version of her given name – was home for Christmas! Born in Bitner, on Nov. 6, 1921, and formerly making her home in Perryopolis, Pauline spent her later years at Our Lady of Peace, an assisted living facility in Charlottesville, Va., where she was closer to family. Originally from Uniontown, Pauline graduated from South Union High School just in time to join the first of the secretarial pool hired when the Pentagon first opened in Washington, D.C. She would regale family and friends with exciting tales of working to support the war effort, and meeting the likes of General George C. Marshall – and Clark Gable in uniform! Pauline loved music and dancing. It was at one magical dance, during the Big Band years, that she met a master sergeant in the army, Michael M. Holet of Pricedale. They corresponded through the war years, and after the war married and returned to Pennsylvania to raise a family. Pauline was active in her church, St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Perryopolis, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Pauline later worked for the Fayette County Child Welfare Service in Uniontown, for a number of years before retiring. Pauline, a widow of 29 years, is survived by three sons and one daughter: sons, Kenneth M. and wife Andrea; the Rev. Father Robert C. and wife Christine; and William S. and wife Nancy; and daughter, Janice M Harris and husband Charles, all of whom make their homes in Virginia. Pauline was also blessed with five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Friends in Virginia will be received from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 9, 2019, at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, located at 7581 Rockfish Gap Turnpike, Greenwood, VA 22943. Visitation for family and friends in Pennsylvania will be held in the nave of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 504 S Liberty St., Perryopolis, at noon Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019. The Funeral Divine Liturgy will follow at 1 p.m. followed by interment at Mount Saint Macrina Cemetery, 500 W. Main St., Uniontown. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Sisters of Saint Basil the Great, 500 W. Main St., Uniontown, Pa. 15401. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandwood.
