Investigators believe an early Thursday morning fire in downtown McKeesport was deliberately set.
McKeesport fire and police departments were called out 1:53 a.m. to the aparrment building at 912 Fifth Ave. Fire Chief Jeffrey Tomovcsik said crews encountered flames as soon as they arrived on scene, but were able to quickly get the fire under control.
No one was taken to the hospital as a result of the fire, but one person was treated on scene by McKeesport Ambulance Rescue Service paramedics. Tomovcsik said the person’s injuries were not serious and they were treated as a precaution. Tomovcsik said that not all of the building’s apartments were occupied, but added that at least three of the apartments had tenants. He said there were children living in the building.
He said three individuals who were living in the building have been displaced as a result of the fire. The American Red Cross will be assisting those people find living arrangements.
