Half a dozen fire departments responded to a fully involved structure fire at 1319 Sycamore St., Monessen, Thursday night.

As firefighters from Monessen Hilltop, Monessen No. 1, Carroll Township, Rostraver Central, Belle Vernon and Charleroi arrived on scene around 10:30 p.m., flames could be seen shooting from the front porch area of the brick, ranch-style house.

Firefighters used a chainsaw to cut through the garage door and gain access to the home, which caused flames that had previously been extinguished to reignite in the rear of the structure.

As the blaze began to regain strength, Carroll Township and Monessen Hilltop firefighters had to use ladder trucks to attack flames from above.
Around 11:15 p.m., crews were still on scene using a metal rod to poke holes through the roof of the home to make sure the blaze had not spread.
