Power goes out as new year comes in

While the rest of the Eastern time zone was watching the ball drop in Times Square, thousands of southwestern Pennsylvanians, including some Mon Valley residents, were ringing in the new year in the dark.
More than 10,000 households, which use either Duquesne Light or West Penn Power, lost their electricity on New Year’s Eve as a result of high winds and downed trees.
