By obits

Colonel (R) Robert F. Henderson passed peacefully in December 2018, at home with his daughter and wife by his side. Bob started his life in Roscoe, where he grew up swimming and rowing on the river, gathering his friends for a game of battle or creating his own fireworks. Bob and his wife, Susan, left Roscoe for an incredible military career. Bob served for 30 years in a variety of positions that  included Platoon Leader 3/18th Field Artillery Battalion (BN), S3 for 2/33rd Armor BN, Company Commander of both HHC and Charlie Company 143rd Signal BN, Signal BN Executive Officer at 10th Mountain Division, Battalion Commander of 124th Signal Battalion, Director of Theater Master Plans U.S. Forces Korea, Garrison Commander at Fort Gordon, Ga., from 2001 to 2004, and Military Deputy to the Deputy Under-Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon. After retiring from the Army, Bob served as the Division Chief for the Strategic Initiatives Groups (IMCOM-Europe) and as the Deputy Director – Directorate of Transformation at U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence and Fort Gordon, Ga., where here retired in October 2018. Colonel (R) Henderson’s military awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Army Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Metal and a myriad of other awards. He also has civilian honors: two Department of the Army Meritorious Civilian Service Awards. Bob’s education includes a Bachelor of Science degree from California University of Pennsylvania. While serving, Bob attained three master degrees. Bob is remembered for his legacy of enacting change and improvements wherever he went. He focused on the morale of the soldiers, his team and those around him. People would say “… give it to Henderson, then get out of his way.” Bob has left a legacy his family is proud of. He was a leader and valued doing the right thing. He was an amazing role model for his daughter. Family members, in addition to his wife, include his daughter, Cathy Henderson; and sister, Carol Rebar and husband Robert Rebar. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Julia Henderson, and brother, Jay Henderson. Burial, with full military honors, will be in the spring of 2019 at Arlington National Cemetery.
