As Phil Pergola exited the Ringgold locker room after his teams 69-53 win over Yough, he was fairly pleased with the play of his big man Luke Wyvratt.
“From last year to this year, he’s improved tremendously and he controlled the inside tonight,” Pergola said.
The 6-4 forward secured yet another double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds en route to the Rams sixth straight victory of the young season.
The game began with both teams trading baskets until Ringgold rattled off a 12-0 run fueled by the play of sophomore guard Demetrius Butler who scored five of his 12 points in the spurt.
The first quarter ended with Yough getting a Gamal Marballie fade away at the buzzer to make the score 18-8.
The second quarter began with a 12-point Yough run that Marballie capped off with a 3-pointer from the wing.
Marballie, who scored 17 points for the Cougars (3-4), got his team within two at 20-18.
That was as close the Cougars would get.
