Monessen appointment questioned

Monessen officials objected Thursday to Mayor Matt Shorraw’s appointee to the city’s redevelopment authority, but an expert on the state Sunshine Act said the move appears to be legal.

“It may be an issue under Third Class City Code, but definitely not the Sunshine Act, in my opinion,” said Melissa Melewsky, media law counsel with the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association. “Their solicitor may have a different opinion, but reasonable minds can disagree.”
