Two McKeesport girls, described by Mayor Michael Cherepko as being “shining examples for the hope of the future,” were among the four people honored at the city’s quarterly Message Awards.
Six-year-old Peyton Estochin and 12-year-old Alana Demis, both from the Christy Park neighborhood, along with Olympic Gold Medalist and McKeesport native Swin Cash and NAACP McKeesport President Brenda Sawyer, were recognized for their continuing efforts to enrich the lives of others and “display the characteristics of the city’s motto of respect, dignity, hope and love on a daily basis in our community,” Cherepko said.
“Whether through organizing community activities or offering a helping hand to those in need, everyday people are doing their part to make our city a better place. If we look within our schools, our neighborhoods, our churches and our service organizations, we will find acts of kindness for which we all can be proud,” Cherepko said.
