The City of McKeesport and Amvets Post 8 on Friday recalled a moment that launched the United States’ involvement into World War II.
At 12:55 p.m. — 7:55 a.m. Hawaii time — on Dec. 7, 1941, an unexpected military foe, The Empire of Japan, launched an attack on the U.S Naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.
Dozens of military veterans braved the cold Friday to attend McKeesport’s ceremony marking the 77th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Each branch of the armed forces, including Purple Heart awardees and veterans from World War II, the Vietnam War, Korean conflict, Persian Gulf War and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan gathered at the Palisades to honor their comrades who served at Pearl Harbor and those who perished during or as a result of the Japanese attacks.
