Donors Smog anniversary; Zinc Works deflected blame for health toll

The fact that people died during the Donora Smog of 1948 has never been doubted, but the cause of death and the number of fatalities has been debated.
On Oct. 26, 1948, a temperature inversion locked the smoke and fog, which normally burned off throughout the day, in the heart of Donora for five days.
