As the holiday season approaches, multiple area organizations are teaming up to “Feed the Valley.”
A new initiative, Feed the Valley, comprises members of Bikers Helping Others, the Bag Brigade, Salvation Army and the North Belle Vernon Recreation Commission, working together to combat hunger in the Mid-Mon Valley.
Also known as BHO, Bikers Helping Others is a nonprofit organization which sponsors benefit dinners and motorcycle rides, grants wishes, donates bicycles and organizes other fundraisers for people in need.
Founded two years ago by Kathy Kelly and Ashley Eisengart of Gospel Alliance Church in Rostraver Township, the Bag Brigade provides about 200 Belle Vernon Area School District students with backpacks filled with snacks and quick meals to take home each Friday.
Bikers Helping Others treasurer Valerie Canigiani said the “super-group” formed after a conversation with Salvation Army volunteer Ronalyn Apodiakos.
