Donora to mark 70th anniversary of smog

The Donora Historical Society and Smog Museum have several activities planned to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the borough’s infamous 1948 smog.
In the early morning hours of Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1948, a temperature inversion settled over Donora. Sulfur trioxides and fluorine gases poured out of Donora Zinc Works and into the stagnant atmosphere, unable to escape as normal.
