Sheetz gets Monongahela’s OK for beer, wine sales

Monongahela council voted Wednesday night to approve a liquor license transfer, which is the first step for Sheetz to be able to sell beer and wine in the city.
A public hearing preceded council’s regular monthly meeting and council members Daryl Miller, Rusty Polonoli and Claudia Williams attended to hear attorney Mark Kozar’s presentation on behalf of Sheetz.
No residents attended.
Gaining the municipality’s approval was the first step, now Sheetz must ask the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to approve the transfer.
Kozar told council last night that 98 Sheetz locations in Pennsylvania currently sell beer and wine and several more sites are in the process of seeking approval for the sales.
If approved by the PLCB, Sheetz will renovate its East Main Street location to create a sit-down space for eating food and consuming beer on site. There will be a “beer cave,” in which patrons can shop from 150 different kinds of beer, according to Kozar.
