Explorer science lab to dock in Monongahela

Several hundred Mon Valley students will serve as guest scientists when the “Explorer” docks at the Noble J. Dick Aquatorium in Monongahela later this week.
The river boat, which normally docks along the Ohio River, is a floating classroom that offers educational programming for students thanks to the Pittsburgh-based organization Rivers of Steel.
Originally slated to dock on Sunday, inclement weather and recent flooding at the aquatorium have caused a slight delay.
Bloom said the boat should be docked sometime this weekend and will host programs through Oct. 24.
The “Explorer” has never before studied the Monongahela River and will host up to 60 people each day during its stay for either a three or four and a half hour trip depending on transportation availability for each district.
