Walking down the basement steps of homes in Smithdale, Boston, Buena Vista or Industry in Elizabeth Township on Wednesday could be described as sad, but residents in those areas are trying to find the silver lining.
Communities across the Mon Valley have been feeling the consequences of flooding since this past weekend when Tropical Storm Gordon dropped 6- to 8-inches of rain on the area.
Pennsylvania’s 11th District congeessman, U.S Rep. Lou Barletta, R-Hazelton, on Wednesday toured the affected communities in Elizabeth Township to help members of the Buena Vista Volunteer Fire Company pass out bottled water, cleaning supplies and American Red Cross flood clean up kits.
Barletta said he was there representing himself as the chairman of the House Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management, which is a position on the Committee of Transportation and Infrastructure and has jurisdiction over Federal Emergency Management Agency infrastructure.
