A pair of local parents spoke up during Wednesday’s school board meeting regarding recent security upgrades in the Elizabeth Forward School District.
During a special meeting last week, the school board voted to approve hiring four armed school security officers for the upcoming school year.
Each school building in the district will have an officer to provide an extra layer of security for students, faculty and staff.
David Hamer, Raymond Kain Jr., Harry Keffer III and Andre Stenson were hired as officers.
Each officer has more than 20 years of police experience, is ACT 235 certified and will be easily identified in a school- issued police uniform.
In addition to the four new officers, the district is retaining Elizabeth Township Police Officer Chris McBride, who serves as the district’s resource officer.
Chris Thomas, a parent and a music teacher at the middle school, commended the board for their decision to add extra security to schools.
