Monongahela will continue to provide police coverage for Union Township for another four years.
Monongahela council and the Union Township Board of Supervisors each approved the police agreement at their respective meetings Wednesday night.
Police Chief Kevin Harris worked with the township over the course of several months to draw up a contract, so he was confident its board of supervisors would vote in favor of the deal.
Harris said Monongahela police will continue to provide 24-7 coverage to Union Township.
Harris did not have the contract’s information on hand, but mentioned that costs have increased.
“The way the world is right now whenever it’s talking about police coverage, there’s not too many people out there looking into police jobs anymore,” Harris said. “So we’re looking to increase (the number) our full time officers to guarantee coverage in future years.”
Monongahela police have patrolled Union Township since 2017.
It’s official: Monongahela is the kindest city in America.
Council proclaimed Monongahela as the kindest city in America during Wednesday’s meeting.
“That’s because of you guys,” Councilman Roy Sarver said, referring to the residents in attendance.
Mayor Greg Garry read the proclamation to the audience of about a dozen residents.
“The city recognizes the importance of a vibrant and healthy lifestyle for residents, businesses and visitors as well as the growth of the community,” Garry said. “The city leaders, employees, residents, businesses, and this community as a whole, make it their mission to show kindness, give assistance without hesitation, show compassion to those in need and are dedicated to the overall growth and success of the city.”
