The Rostraver Township Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to hire new police officers as well as promote current veteran officers to sergeant.
During Wednesday’s meeting, Magisterial District Judge John E. Christner, the township’s former police chief, swore in new full-time police officers Skyler Craven and Matthew Scheiber. Craven will start April 29 and Scheiber June 10.
Their family and friends were there to support them.
“I’m excited. I’m really excited to get started,” Scheiber said. “The process has been good. It’s taken some time, but it worked out in the end.”
Board President Jeffrey R. Johnson said he met the new candidates that day and acknowledged the “long and lengthy” interview process.
“Welcome to Rostraver Township and the Rostraver Township Police Department,” Johnson said. “Our chief speaks very highly of both of you, and I expect some great things out of both of you as well and welcome to the family.”
Johnson added that the police department was well represented at the meeting for the promotions of officers Richard Beranek and Stephen Sholtis to sergeants.
