On a random Tuesday, one might find packs of diapers, wipes or toys at the door of the Roscoe United Methodist Church.
The church, located at 815 Furlong Ave., has been home for five years to a monthly diaper pantry called Open Hearts – where Roscoe, Elco and surrounding community members can find diapers, wipes, baby cereal, food when available, clothing, toys, household items and more at no cost with nothing required to sign up.
Held on the last Saturday of every month from 9 to 11 a.m., the volunteer coordinator and parishioner Tami Prah of Perry Township said the church has received various donations over the years and the pantry “depends” on those donations as well as money from the congregation to help families in need.
“We are completely funded with donations, and I think just getting out there to let people know that we’re still there,” Prah said. “I’ve always wanted to try to do something for the community, and I felt like it was something that I was meant to do. I reached out to the church and my family and got overwhelming support for it.”
