Rostraver Township commissioners said they received “numerous calls” over the weekend from residents with questions over erroneous tax bills that were sent out.
During Wednesday’s business meeting, Commissioner Devin DeRienzo said the errors came from township Tax Collector Pat Lander’s office.
“After many hours of research by the board and the solicitor, it was found that 2024 tax bills were verified and proved to be printed and mailed by the tax office with the wrong (bill) rate on every bill,” DeRienzo said. “We’ve been informed by the tax office that the new bills with the correct (amount) were printed and are being mailed out this week.”
DeRienzo said he would not go into a timeline of the events that led to the errors, but that the board and Solicitor Joseph Dalfonso got an email on March 1 from Lander that said the bills that were printed, mailed and delivered with the wrong amount on it.
According to DeRienzo and the board, the wrong tax bills were not the result of a data error as Lander claimed, but rather an approval error.
In an article in Tuesday’s edition of the Mon Valley Independent, Lander said it took several days to identify the source of the problem, which wasn’t a misprint or error from her office.
