As we kick off the new year, many people will make resolutions they may or may not follow, but Belle Vernon scout Tim Reda spent the past year seeing his a commitment come to fruition as he earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.
From August 2022 to July 2023, Tim took to the Gorge Trail at Cedar Creek Park in Rostraver Township and completed a series of renovations in order to complete his Eagle Project.
The Belle Vernon Area High School junior’s project took about 165 hours to complete between planning and execution. In all, seven branches were renovated, the trail entrance was cleaned up and edged with stone, several narrow areas of the trail were widened and the trail and surrounding monuments were cleaned.
“It felt really relieving and accomplishing because it took me a while to get Eagle Scout,” Tim said. “I drug my feet on doing it, but it felt relieving that it was done and over with.”
A member of Troop 1543 since fifth grade after joining Cub Scouts in first grade, Tim said the journey of scouts was an extremely rewarding experience.
