Local lawmakers celebrate end of long budget process

After a five-and-a-half-month standstill, Pennsylvania’s budget deadlock came to an end Wednesday as Legislature passed two education code bills that aim to invest in mental health resources, address the state’s teacher shortage and mitigate child care costs. Gov. Josh Shapiro signed the final parts of the state’s 2023-2024 budget, which include $175 million in upgrades to Pennsylvania schools and $261 million in funding for community colleges.
