Coach Chuck Urbanowicz memorialized with bench at Monessen park

Chuck Urbanowicz spent most of life at the top field of City Park in Monessen.
That’s because, Urbanowicz, who was known as “Coach Chuck,” spent 56 years teaching and coaching youth football to kids in Monessen. Those teams practiced on the park’s main baseball field.
And now, for the rest of time, “Coach Chuck” will be remembered at the lower end of the park.
That’s because Urbanowicz, who died April 27 this year, has his name on a new bench placed near the park’s popular walking track.
The gift of the bench to the city was made by his widow, Dorothy “Lenny” Urbanowicz.
“He had given so much of his life to the youth of Monessen and some people had donated money to me and told me to use it for whatever I wanted,” said Mrs. Urbanowicz. “I figured, why not a bench with his name on it? A lot of people use the park and the walking track and they will see his bench and remember him.”
