Monessen’s financial picture improving

In 2022, the City of Monessen overcame a negative fund balance of nearly $1 million to end the year with the first surplus in more than seven years. Auditors from Cypher and Cypher presented the city’s 2022 audit at Thursday night’s council meeting and praised Monessen’s recovery from 2021 when the city finished the year with a negative fund balance of $940,540. The ending fund balance was a positive $64,989.
