The Ringgold School Board passed the 2023-24 budget Wednesday, raising taxes slightly for district property owners.
The new budget comes in at $52,350,740, a nearly $1 million increase from last year’s $51,537,045 budget.
To support the increase, the board approved raising taxes by .5 mills. Director of Finance Kim Moore said median-value district households will have a $56.05 increase.
Real estate taxes for the upcoming school year will come in at 15.6705 mills, with 1 mill generating roughly $240,000. There will be a $5 per capita tax under both acts 679 and 511, a .5 mill mercantile tax on wholesale items, a $10 occupational privilege tax and a .5% earned income tax with an exception up to $3,000.
Board members passed the budget 6-1 with Maureen Ott casting the single dissenting vote. Members Gene Kennedy and Steve Toprani were absent from the meeting.
