MASD officials discuss claims of student bias

McKeesport Area School District board members discussed past incidents of alleged preferential treatment regarding student discipline and expulsions Wednesday.
During public comments at last night’s voting meeting, former board member and McKeesport resident Mark Holtzman mentioned a recent social media post suggesting that previous boards have deviated from district policy regarding student behavior.
Board President Latoya Wright addressed the issue following Holtzman’s comment.
“If we’re going to be honest and transparent, there’s been favors done regarding disciplinary actions taken by the board,” Wright said. “There’s been different things done for different reasons, and sometimes they’ve taken on a political nature.”
