A construction project several years in the making will begin next month at the South Allegheny Elementary School.
During Tuesday’s South Allegheny school board meeting, it was announced that construction is scheduled to begin May 17.
In February 2021, the school board approved a $10 million bond issue for the purpose of renovating and upgrading the existing elementary school and the creation of an athletic complex at the existing secondary campus.
According to the district’s website, the South Allegheny Elementary School has seen a need for repair shortly after its opening in January 2003 when cracks and separation began to develop in the foundation and walls of the building. The district settled with companies who were part of the construction project in January 2020 for $4.5 million. These monies, which were dedicated to repairs and updates, were determined insufficient for project completion.
