Fayette City Borough council has been hard at work taking down blighted buildings recently, but Vice President Dianna Vargo says that there’s still several more that need to be addressed.
Vargo worked with the Redevelopment Authority of the County of Fayette, Pa. (RACF)’s Executive Director Andrew French, to demolish 239, 308 and 312 Main St. along the borough’s main drag.
The buildings were acquired by the RACF through a partnership with Fayette City Borough as the redevelopment authority placed a priority bid to gain possession of the properties at the 2022 Judicial Sale with the intention of taking them down.
From there, the RACF worked with Fayette County Commissioners Dave Lohr – who is chairman – Vince Vicites and Scott Dunn to use county land bank funding for the demolitions.
Vargo said that the buildings had become an eye-sore and a public safety concern as one had sewage flowing under it and eventually started falling onto the sidewalk. This was when borough council decided to contact county commissioners as they felt something had to be done.
