Area residents will soon be able to go inside Monongahela Area Library again.
The library has operated with curbside service since early December due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it will open its doors Monday for the public to browse the books and use the computers and copiers.
The decision to reopen was made this week by the library board when students in the Ringgold School District were allowed to return to classrooms.
“We were going to follow the school district’s precedent,” said library board member Terry Necciai. “We were a little slow to respond because we weren’t sure if they were going to stay open.”
The library opened its doors to the public in August with limited hours and restrictions due to COVID-19, but the virus’ surge late in the year forced the library to close again and operate on a curbside-only basis.
Becky Dudzik, the library’s acting director, said the opening comes at a perfect time: heading into tax season and students’ final exams.
“We’ve been getting a lot of phone calls to do taxes at the library,” Dudzik said. “Students also call in to use the rooms for studying.”
