The Charleroi Area cafeteria served as a makeshift carnival to students Thursday.
Through a partnership with the SPHS Washington Family Center, middle school students built carnival games to mark Lights On Afterschool, a nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their role in the lives of children, families and communities.
The 21st Century Afterschool program is providing STEAM learning opportunities to Charleroi Area Middle School students all year long.
STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
Nearly 30 students are involved in the daily program this year, giving them the opportunity to explore computer-aided drafting, 3D printing, Lego Robotics and more.
This week, students got to work using cardboard, masking tape, hot glue, Popsicle sticks, foam pool toys and other materials to create carnival games.
